But four years later, <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">saas-bahu</span> serials came up with a regressive portrayal of women which I or even the young generation cannot relate to. There were strange women popping out of the television who weren''t at all like our mothers, sisters or even someone we distantly knew off. Women, like the ones portrayed in these serials, might be part of our society, but I don''t think we should glorify them. As a writer I feel ostracised and out of place in this world of <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">saas-bahu</span> sagas.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">Television or films, which medium do you like more?</span><br /><br />The good thing about serials is that they are always in your control and you can improve upon the characters. A film is a one-time effort and you can''t make any changes. So you have to be careful about detailing and the statements you are making. Also you can''t make excuses for mistakes you have done. But still cinema is a hugely effective medium and it''s far more intense than television, so it''s an altogether different experience.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">What drove you to make an English film?</span><br /><br />One can no longer ignore the huge English speaking audience. The existence of this segment needs to be legitamitised. There should be all kinds of expressions for all kinds of people. The English-speaking audience has no platform besides theatre, and that too is very restricted.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">How was the experience of directing your first film?</span><br /><br />I have experienced excitement, fear and apprehension which all first timers go through. So much passion, blood, sweat and tears have gone into the realisation of this dream. The fear of people rejecting my film was of course there. Now I am worried about whether it will make for a box-office success. I am also worried about my next film, so I guess it''s a permanent state of mind.</div> </div>
